白色的三角蟹蛛雌蛛，體型與黑褐色的雄蛛差異極大，乍看之下會以為是母子關係，其實是一對戀人。大多數哺乳動物的體型是雄性大於雌性，蜘蛛卻是雌性大於雄性居多。因為負責產卵的雌性，需累積較多能量產生子代，甚至需要保護卵或幼體。雄蛛的繁衍角色，通常只提供能量較廉價的精子，不負責生產或育幼。

There is a large difference in size between the white female masked crab spider and the dark brown male masked crab spider. At first glance, they seem to be mother and child. In actuality, they are a mating couple. Among most mammals, males are larger than females. However, the opposite is true for most spiders, with females being larger than males. The main reason is that females need more energy to produce eggs and even protect the eggs and care for their young. Males are only responsible for providing sperm, which does not require as much energy.
