夏季黃昏，薄翅蟬老熟若蟲，從土中鑽出並爬到樹上，然後抓緊樹皮，蜕皮羽化。當若蟲的背上出現一條裂縫時，表示蜕皮的過程開始了：胸部與頭部先出來，緊接着露出綠色的腹部和褶皺的翅膀，停留片刻，待完全伸展的翅膀變硬、顏色變深，便開始起飛，整個過程需要一個小時左右。接下來進入鳴叫、交尾、產卵等階段，之後新生的幼蟲會進入土中蟄伏，開始下一個長達數年的生命週期。

At dusk, in summer, mature nymphs of the cicada Chremistica ochracea come out from the soil and climb trees. They grasp onto tree bark as they molt. The process begins with a crack along the nymph’s back, followed by emergence of the thorax and head, then the green abdomen and wrinkled wings. It lingers, but once its fully extended wings harden and darken it flies away. The whole process takes about an hour. Then, it goes through the stages of calling, mating, and laying eggs. Newly hatched larvae enter the soil where they spend most of their lives, starting a new cycle that can last several years.
