天南星科魔芋屬植物，因有些品種可被做成「蒟蒻」而廣為人知。臺灣原生有四種魔芋，分別是：疣柄魔芋、密毛魔芋、臺灣魔芋和東亞魔芋。每逢梅雨季前後，這些魔芋分別從土裡冒芽、開花，並時常伴隨著一股惡臭，與一般認知「花是香的」有所區別。吸引著一些雙翅目的昆蟲前來，也吸引像我一樣的「逐臭之夫」。密毛魔芋是當中花最高的，高度可達280公分，為臺灣最高的花；而疣柄魔芋，花徑可達30公分以上，為臺灣最大的花。

Some varieties of plants in the family Araceae and genus Amorphophallus are well known as they are used to make edible gelatin. There are four species native to Taiwan: elephant yam, Taiwan titan arum, Taiwan amorphophallus, and voodoo lily. Around the plum rain season (May to June), these plants sprout and bloom, accompanied by a foul stench, which differs from the convention of fragrant flowers. This stench attracts insects of the Order Diptera, as well as photographers like me. The Taiwan titan arum has the tallest flowers, reaching a height of 280 cm tall. At a diameter of up to 30 cm wide, the flowers of the elephant yam are the largest in Taiwan.
