坪林的金瓜寮溪有很多顯齒澤蟹。並非越往上游或下游，才能見到牠們的蹤跡，而是在人工步道難以抵達，屬於亂石堆區段的河床地形，較容易發現大量族群。顯齒澤蟹似乎是沒有季節性的，隨時都可以找到牠們。俗稱「毛蟹」的直額絨螯蟹，卻有顯著的季節性，必須要在大啖毛蟹的時節開始前，把握好天氣上山下水，才有機會拍攝。由於毛蟹主要的食物是藻類，所以仔細觀察河床覆有藻類的石頭，就有機會發現正在刮食藻類的毛蟹。

In the Jingualiao River of Pinglin can be found many Geothelphusa eucrinodonta crabs. It’s not that the farther upstream or downstream you go, the easier it is to find them. Rather, they can be seen in large numbers along riverbeds where there is rubble and that are difficult to reach via manmade trails. These crabs are non-seasonal and can be found almost any time of the year. The Taiwan mitten crab, also called the hairy crab, has obvious seasonality. Only when weather conditions are right is there an opportunity to photograph them just before the hairy crab season. Taiwan mitten crabs mainly feed on algae. Therefore, carefully observe algae-covered rocks along the riverbed and you might just see them scraping off algae.
