大屯姬深山鍬形蟲為臺灣特有種生物，在臺灣僅分布於陽明山國家公園的大屯山系，為分布十分狹隘的種類。本種鍬形蟲的雌蟲行蹤極其隱密，極少有發現記錄，自1984年發表迄今，生態尚未解鎖，生活史不明。此張在包籜矢竹上交配的大屯姬深山鍬形蟲，是在生息地中相當難得的繁殖紀錄。

Lucanus datunensis is a stag beetle that is endemic to Taiwan. It has a narrow distribution, only found in the Datun mountain area of Yangmingshan National Park. The females of this species are extremely crptic with very few sightings. Since its discovery in 1984, little is known about its ecology and life history. This image of a mating pair captured on Usawa cane provides a rare reproductive record in their habitat.
